WHAT: The Onion Market
WHERE: Bern, Switzerland

The Onion Market is the biggest folk festival on the Switzerland's capital's calendar Zibelemärit, is a favourite market with amongst the Swiss.

50-tons of onion braids, rings and single onion bulbs are on display, but textiles, jewelry, ceramics and children's toys are also on sale. A highlight is the confetti war! The festival begins at 6 a.m., but the city centre fills with that distinctly pungent smell from 5 a.m, when the first onion soups start boiling and onion tarts are put in the oven.
